Any registrations involving Fair Entry, Fee Assistance or Kidsport subsidies MUST be done IN PERSON and cannot be processed online.

Engineering for Kids

Week 1 - 3D Modeling & Creations: Imagine. Design. Create. (Morning option 9 am – 12 pm)

3D Printing has taken the world by storm! This innovative new camp brings your ideas to life and allows everyday users to create nearly anything they can imagine. Have a cool idea for an invention? Why not print it! Design anything and together we make it a reality. This camp encourages an open-ended design concept.

Explore the concepts of 3D printing and computer-aided design to bring your own creations to life!

Design a model in preparation for real 3D printing! Take it home and show off your creations to all your friends! The fun doesn’t end when camp does; Continue to improve your skills at home using the same TinkerCAD modeling software you learned at camp with 24/7 access!!

Hackers Unite! “Video Game Design and introduction to Augmented Reality! (Afternoon option 1pm – 4pm)  

What’s more fun than playing video games? Designing them!

Discover how to create animations, stories, and games. Participants will be introduced to 2D animations using Scratch 3.0 programming and wrap up with an introduction to AR using Tynker.

Get a solid foundation in coding and programming, learning how to use conditional loops, variables live video and gestures to interact with virtual game elements. The FUN doesn’t stop here, keep your skills sharp with our take-home program. Play & build from home!

Week 2: Bot Buddy with Ozobot: Code and Create Games (Morning option 9 am – 12 pm)

Discover the wild world of robots. They will work as young scientists, engineers, and mathematicians to create colour patterns and code their Ozobot to solve puzzles, traverse mazes, dance and even go bowl!

Campers will join in a hands-on creative, and innovative adventure!

This highly engaging camp builds early STEM and spatial skills. Together we will foster a love of science, exploration, and nature.

Junior Inventors (Afternoon option 1pm – 4pm)  

A week of fun, creativity, and of course -- Engineering!

Over the course of a week, students will invent new machines and explore creative design solutions using the Engineering Design Process.

Design your own Drawing Robot, build a Hovering Vehicle, and use your Tinker Box to invent something new.

We encourage learning that fosters students’ creativity, courage, and curiosity through open-ended challenges in the fields of STEM, fine arts, and learning.

Week 3: Junior Makers and Engineers! (Morning option 9 am – 12 pm)

The young adventurers will discover the fascinating world of engineering as they are challenged to create various builds using the engineering design process.

Our young campers will design their own operation game, build cool toys, discover the wonders of chemical engineering and more. We finish the week with a blast as they design and launch their own Bottle Rockets!

Campers will explore, and experiment to further and deepen their own learning. Design thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration are emphasized. The sky’s the limit when you bring your imagination to the table!

Dino Bots Summer Camp (Afternoon option 1pm – 4pm)  

Our young camper will play and learn with Lego WeDo and get a unique opportunity to revive the prehistoric world!

We introduce children to the classification of dinosaurs, when they lived, why they disappeared, the periods of the prehistoric world and more. Give your children an unforgettable camp journey into the prehistoric world of dinosaurs! Together we will foster a love of science, exploration, and nature!

Week 4: Claymation Enrichment Camp (Morning option 9 am – 12 pm)

 

Lights, Camera, Action!                                              

What do Wallace and Gromit, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and James and the Giant Peach all have in common? They’re Claymation characters who have captivated the world with the magical realities they bring to life!

Tap into the incredible practice of stop-motion film production and learn the technique from the ground up.  This camp contains everything students need to create their own individual movies and turns anyone into a filmmaker.

Through teamwork, technological literacy, and a little bit of movie-making magic, you’re sure to win awards at the film festival held the last day of camp!

Creative Game Design with Bloxels (Afternoon option 1pm – 4pm)  

Calling all future writers, artists, designers, and game developers! Students in this collaborative class enjoy storyboarding their games with character, enemy, and plot development.

Using Bloxels, they will turn their interactive stories and physical creations into a digital video game.

They will use Bloxels game board and blocks to create the characters, levels, and other art for their games. They capture all their creations using the Bloxels App, where they edit and customize everything - what it looks like and how elements interact and behave, which turns it all into a fun playable game on the tablet.

  To ensure the health and safety of all participants, Cardel Rec South has the following standards in place: 

 

  • Participants should come each day dressed appropriately in comfortable shoes and have play clothes that can get dirty.
  • All of our programs include an outdoor component; participants should have a bag that includes a hat, bug spray, sunscreen and water bottle.
  • Half-day participants should bring a small snack, full day participants should bring a healthy lunch as well as one snack for the morning and one snack for the afternoon.
  • To protect those participants with allergies, NO NUT products are allowed.
  • Although there is a concession on-site, we do NOT recommend sending your child with money.
  • Participants in the art programs are encouraged to bring a smock or old shirt to wear while working on painting projects.
  • Cardel Rec South is not responsible for any items that may be lost or stolen. Please refrain from bringing any valuables to the programs. (ie: electronics, money etc.)
  • Lower ratios are in place for Preschool programs. All participants in these programs MUST be fully toilet trained.
  • Unfortunately pre and post camp care services are not available.

 

Cardel Rec South proudly accepts the City of Calgary Fair Entry - Programs and services for low income Calgarians Fee Assistance Program.  

 **Important Information**

Registration deadlines for each session are one (1) week prior to course start date. In order to guarantee your spot we strongly recommend signing up early! Classes fill up quickly and in an effort to keep our instructor/student ratios low we do limit registration numbers in each class. Late registrations will be accepted provided there is space available in the class. We reserve the right to cancel classes if minimum numbers are not met by the registration deadline. Member rates are available for Cardel Rec South Founding Members as well as members of the following community associations: Millrise, Midnapore, Sundance, Shawnessy, Evergreen, Shawnee, Chaparral, Bridlewood, Somerset & Silverado.

Refund Policy: Refunds requested up to one week prior to the start date of desired program will receive a full refund. For cancellations within 7 days of the program start date or if the program has started Refunds will only be issued for medical reasons, and will require a doctors note prior to the the refund being processed.

The refund amounts will be pro-rated based upon the number of classes remaining in the program. All refunds requested after the registration deadline, regardless of the reason are subject to a $10.00 admin fee.

Please Note: There will be a $45.00 fee charged on all NSF cheques posted to South Fish Creek Recreation Association.
