Brief About Us of Little Medical School:

Little Medical School - Calgary brings medicine, science, and the importance of health to children in an entertaining, exciting, and fun way. We provide a complete mini-medical school experience to kids ages 4 - 12 which is aligned with STEM-based curriculum objectives allowing children to explore the field of medicine through hands-on interactive instruction, role play, crafts and games.  Children will have so much fun as they dress up like doctors, use medical instruments and learn how the body works.  By participating in these role-playing experiences, Little Medical School® is inspiring tomorrow’s doctors today!

Little Medical School – 2: First Aid, Brain, Spine & “That Is Gross!”

In this six-week course, kids will learn the importance of first aid and how to respond to common minor injuries. They’ll also build their own model brain to take home, learn about the spine and learn how to read a prescription. Plus, this course includes the kid favorite, “That Is Gross,” in which they learn all about gas and mucus and even make homemade snot!

Class 1: First Aid

Students will learn how to respond when first aid is needed for scrapes, burns and cuts. They will even create their own take home first aid kit!

Class 2: The Wonderful Brain!

Students will learn key facts including how it works, and they get to build their own model of the brain!

Class 3: That is Gross!

Students will learn what gas is and why we burp; about mucus and boogers and get to make their own take home snot!

Class 4: Your Spine is Fine!

Students will learn about what the spine does, the different levels and even get to make a spine model!

Class 5: Pharmacy!

Students will learn what a prescription is and what information it needs to contain.  They will gain an understanding of how pharmacists dispense prescriptions and even practice writing their own take home prescriptions!

Class 6: Medical Fun and Graduation

We will discuss key concepts and vocabulary. Learn about becoming a doctor and design your own office. Graduate with a diploma!

Session 2: Future Pediatrician

Little Medical School (Ages 4-6) – Future Pediatrician

Class 1: A Baby is Born!

Our medical students will understand what it is to be a Little Pediatrician and what do we expect when a baby is born.

Class 2: Caring for a Baby!

Students will learn how to perform a newborn baby examination, practice putting on a diaper and learn about diaper rash and how to prevent it.

Class 3: The 3 B’s…. Burps, Bottles and Baths

We will discuss why a baby burps and practice ways to burp a baby, learn how to feed a baby and how to give a baby a sponge bath.

Class 4: Emergencies and Vaccinations!

Students will be equipped with emergency skills like CPR and Heimlich maneuvers. The importance of vaccinations will also be discussed.

Class 5: Preparing for a Sibling

Students will learn how to keep a baby safe when they sleep, discuss what is a Finnish Baby Box and get to make their own, and how to soothe a baby to sleep.

Class 6: Medical Fun and Pediatrician School Graduation

Students will learn about the path to become a Pediatrician, plan what their dream job will look like and graduate from Little Pediatrician School.

Session 2: Little Medical School (Ages 7-12) – 3: Eyes, Nose, CPR & X-rays!

Day/Time: Tuesday,  6:30 pm - 7:30 pm

Little Medical School (Ages 7-12) – 3: Eyes, Nose, CPR & X-rays!

Students will be immersed in an exploration of the senses in this fascinating course by Little Medical School. Over six hours of interactive instruction, kids will have fun building their own model eye and learning how the eye reacts to light. They will also make a model eardrum and discover how ears interpret sound into hearing. They’ll also receive an introduction to CPR and the Heimlich maneuver, learn to recognize bone fractures on an X-ray and even splint a broken bone.

Class 1: The Exciting Eye!

Students will learn to name parts of the eye, learn about reaction to light as well as how the lens focuses light. They even make a model of an eye!

Class 2: Did You Hear That?!

Students will learn how the ear turns noises into hearing, about ear infections and hearing loss. They also get to make a model eardrum!

Class 3: CPR and Heimlich Maneuver!

Students will get an introduction on how to perform CPR as well as saving someone who is choking with the Heimlich maneuver.

*This is not a certification class.

Class 4: Food is Fuel!

Students will learn how to read a food label and understand serving sizes. They learn how the body gets energy from food as well as understanding the link between body weight and disease!

Class 5: Broken Bones!

Students will learn some different types of broken bones and recognize them on X-rays! They even get to practice casting and splinting!

Class 6: Medical Fun and Graduation

We will discuss key concepts and vocabulary, learn about becoming a doctor and design your own office. A graduation ceremony ends the course.

 **Important Information**

Registration deadlines for each session are one (1) week prior to course start date. In order to guarantee your spot we strongly recommend signing up early! Classes fill up quickly and in an effort to keep our instructor/student ratios low we do limit registration numbers in each class. Late registrations will be accepted provided there is space available in the class. We reserve the right to cancel classes if minimum numbers are not met by the registration deadline. Member rates are available for Cardel Rec South Founding Members as well as members of the following community associations: Millrise, Midnapore, Sundance, Shawnessy, Evergreen, Shawnee, Chaparral, Bridlewood, Somerset & Silverado.

Refund Policy: Refunds requested up to one week prior to the start date of desired program will receive a full refund. For cancellations within 7 days of the program start date or if the program has started Refunds will only be issued for medical reasons, and will require a doctors note prior to the the refund being processed.

The refund amounts will be pro-rated based upon the number of classes remaining in the program. All refunds requested after the registration deadline, regardless of the reason are subject to a $10.00 admin fee.

Please Note: There will be a $45.00 fee charged on all NSF cheques posted to South Fish Creek Recreation Association.
